Washington: Here is some good news for cancer patients as a new research conducted by an

Indian-American scientist says it is now possible to find out whether gene mutations associated with pancreatic cancer exist without the need of locating tumour tissue just with the help of a simple blood test.

The research team believes that this process seems to be possible after the finding of tiny particles, called 'exosomes', which carry all the information related to genes of cancer cells.

In order to translate this discovery into a test, the research team needs to decode all the genomic data related to help physicians detect cancer and treat patients.

“By decoding this genomic data and looking for deletions and mutations associated with cancer, we believe this discovery could be translated into a test that helps physicians detect cancer and treat patients,” said Raghu Kalluri, the chairman and professor in University of Texas' MD Anderson's department of cancer biology.

"At present, there is no single blood test that can screen for all cancer-related DNA defects," added Kalluri.
