Nine more test positive for dengue in Jammu

With the detection of nine more positive cases of dengue, the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease in Jammu region of the state has climbed to 66.

Jammu: With the detection of nine more positive cases of dengue, the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease in Jammu region of the state has climbed to 66.

"Nine persons, including three females, were tested positive for the vector-bone disease yesterday, out of which four each from Jammu and Kathua districts and one from Reasi district," Director of Health Services (Jammu) Baljeet Singh Pathania told PTI.

He said that the total number of patients who have so far been tested positive in the entire Jammu region has reached to 66.

Pathania said that blood samples of nearly 500 persons with dengue-like symptoms have been tested so far, out of which 66 were found positive although no serious case has been reported so far.

"Majority of the dengue patients who were admitted to various hospitals were discharged after successful treatment," he added.

A health advisory, issued by the Centre, has been published widely in local dailies to create awareness about the disease, Pathania said, adding that people need to take precautions to save themselves from mosquito bites.

The health department claimed that it is equipped to treat patients suffering from dengue.
