Nagaland observes World Blood Donors Day

Nagaland today joined in observation of World Blood Donors Day by spreading awareness on the need for voluntary blood donation for saving and sharing a life.

Kohima: Nagaland today joined in observation of World Blood Donors Day by spreading awareness on the need for voluntary blood donation for saving and sharing a life.

The day was observed with people coming forward to donate blood at various hospital throughout the state under the theme ?Thank you for saving my life?.

There is a need to strengthen blood donation activities in the state, said Kohima Deputy Commissioner Rovilatuo Mor at the main function held in at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) in the state capital.

He said families, villagers and leaders of different organizations needs to be sensitised so that they come forward and spread awareness towards improving blood donation activities.

Mor also stated that it is our responsibility and duty to remove the fear associated with blood donation from the minds of the people.

Medical Officer of NHAK Blood Bank, Dr V Khamo said any healthy person between the ages of 18- 60 years can donate blood.

Donating blood is a very simple and painless procedure, she said adding the donor can resume normal work after donation.

World Blood Donor Day is an annual event designated by World Health Organization (WHO) to recognize and thank the millions of people around the world who donate their blood to help and save lives and improve health.
