Nagaland government Friday imposed a ban on import of poultry and poultry products from Manipur in the wake of reports of bird flu in the neighbouring state.

Kohima: Nagaland government Friday imposed a ban on import of poultry and poultry products from Manipur in the wake of reports of bird flu in the neighbouring state.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the disease in Nagaland and to safeguard poultry birds and public health, Dr R Thungchamo Ezung, Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, said.

The state has also asked poultry traders, chief veterinary officers, Rapid Response Team and public to be vigilant, he said.

The virus spreads rapidly and can kill upto 90-100 per cent of a poultry flock within 48 hours, the official said.
