Mumbai: Maharashtra Government has undertaken a five-pronged programme to curb malnutrition among children, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said here on Friday.
The programme is called `1,000 days of the children', Chavan said here, after releasing a survey on malnutrition among children in the state.
The Chief Minister also announced that a draft children's policy has been prepared for the all-round development of kids.
Women and Child Development minister Varsha Gaikwad said 4,800 villages in the state have been made malnutrition-free. Malnutrition in the state has declined by eight per cent, she said.
Union Minister Sachin Pilot said malnutrition was a major challenge before the country. One out of every two children is malnourished, he said. A group of MPs across parties is active to tackle this menace, he said.
The Bombay High Court recently asked the Maharashtra government to file an affidavit by November 20 informing what steps it had taken to prevent alleged death of children due to malnutrition in Melghat and other tribal areas of the state.
