New Delhi: Ginger and acupuncture may help some women in treating nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, better known as morning sickness, say experts.

According to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), these therapies could offer alternatives to women who want to avoid medication.

However, drugs should be given to ease symptoms in more severe cases.

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is very common in early pregnancy, affecting majority of women in their first trimester.

As per a report from BBC, the recommendations are in line with advice from NHS watchdog NICE.

The RCOG, in its first guidance on the issue, says treatment can vary around the UK depending on how severe the condition is.

Since ginger products are not licensed for medical use in the UK, NHS Choices warns that supplements be bought only from reputable sources.

If symptoms fail to respond to these therapies, medication sould be sought.

The RCOG however notes that hypnosis is not recommended as there is not enough evidence to establish whether it is effective.
