Tokyo: A bird flu strain that scientists believed could not infect humans has shown up in a Taiwanese woman.
The woman, 20, was sent to hospital in May after suffering lung infection.
She was treated with Tamiflu and antibiotics, and was released.
However, one of her throat swabs sent to the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, where researchers identified it as the H6N1 bird flu, the Japan times.
The woman, who was not identified, is employed in a deli and has no known connection to live birds, which has bamboozled investigators.
However, they noted that several of her close family and pals also developed flulike symptoms after spending time with her, though none tested positive for H6N1.
Results have been published online in journal Lancet Respiratory Medicine.
