8 die due to swine flu in Haryana

Eight persons have succumbed to swine flu in Haryana so far out of the 47 patients who have tested positive to the H1N1 virus, state health officials said Friday.

Chandigarh: Eight persons have succumbed to swine flu in Haryana so far out of the 47 patients who have tested positive to the H1N1 virus, state health officials said Friday.

"In Haryana, at present 47 positive cases of swine flu have been reported from various districts including Gurgaon, Hisar, Jind, Karnal, Sirsa, Rohtak etc. Total eight deaths have been reported so far," an official spokesman of Haryana Health department said.

He said the department is fully geared up for surveillance, prevention, identification, testing, isolation and treatment of case of influenza H1N1.

Isolation wards have been established in all the districts and ventilator facility is made available after tie up with private hospitals and adequate stock of Oseltamivir is being ensured at all times, he said.

He said all civil surgeons have been directed to keep a close vigil of the patients suggestive of symptoms of swine flu and their contacts.

The districts are ready for quick response in identification, testing, isolation, treatment of cases of swine flu. All the clinicians have been advised to consider the possibility of Influenza (H1N1) infection in persons presenting with respiratory illness requiring hospitalization, he added.
