A two-year-old girl of Howrah district succumbed to swine flu today taking the toll across West Bengal to 25 since January, a senior Health Department official said.

Kolkata: A two-year-old girl of Howrah district succumbed to swine flu today taking the toll across West Bengal to 25 since January, a senior Health Department official said.

"The girl was admitted at BC Roy Memorial Hospital for Children for the last 11 days. She was quite critical and was on ventilation. Nothing much helped her case and she died this morning," Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal, Moloy Dey said.

In the last 24 hours, two persons tested positive of the H1N1 virus taking the total number of people infected in the state to 469, he said.

Eight persons in the same period were discharged from different hospitals after they recovered from the disease, Dey said, adding this year, a total of 406 people have been released.

Out of the 38 people currently down with swine flu, 16 were being treated at government hospitals and 22 at private facilities, Dey added.
