Kurukshetra: A week after his spat with Fatehabad SP Sangeeta Rani Kalia, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Friday pulled up another police officer during a meeting of the district public relations and grievance redressal committee here, leading to a "tense" situation.

The minister, who was presiding over the monthly meeting, pulled up the Thanesar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), alleging that the police department has failed to take prompt action on public complaints.

Thanesar DSP Gurmail Singh, who was representing the police department in the absence of SP, was scolded by Vij for a large number of complaints against the working of police.

Noting that as many as six complaints out of total 17 were related to the police department, the minister said it showed how insensitive the police were to public complaints.

The situation became tense when he asked the DSP why the accused in a complaint of dowry torture filed by 28-year-old Shivani Gupta of Ladwa had not been arrested.

The minister lost his temper when Shivani appeared in the meeting and bemoaned that no arrest has yet been made based on her complaint to the Kurukshetra SP on November 15 against her husband and his family members under anti-dowry act for their attempt to burn her.

DSP Singh said Shanvi's complaint has been forwarded to the district women cell on November 16 for mediation, and an FIR registered on her complaint and investigation was on.

The minister then ordered the DSP to arrest the accused by today. When the DSP expressed his inability to get the woman custody of her children as it is a matter concerned to judiciary, the minister constituted a committee to enquire into the case and submit a report to him.

The minister had on November 26 stormed out of a meeting of the Fatehabad district public relations and grievance redressal committee after police officer Kalia refused to follow his order to leave the venue following heated exchanges between them. The video of their spat went viral on social media. A day after the spat, Kalia was shunted out.
