Rohtak: Angry traders on Tuesday hurled shoes towards former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda when he arrived in this Haryana town to meet with people who had suffered heavy losses during the violent Jat agitation in the past one week.

Hooda, who hails from the town and had to face allegations during his nearly 10-year-long tenure (2005-2014) as chief minister that all development was only taking place on Rohtak, had to retreat when the traders hurled shoes at him. The shoes hurled towards him, however, did not hit him.

Hooda, who enjoys Z-plus security cover, was whisked away by his security personnel.

Rohtak saw the worst violence in Haryana's history as violent Jat youth protestors went on the rampage and looted shops and other establishments before setting everything on fire.
