Lok Sabha polls 2014: Advani, Modi, Sonia in fray as India votes in 7th phase today

New Delhi: Eighty-nine Lok Sabha seats spread over seven states and two Union Territories will go to polls in this phase on Wednesday that will dec ide the fate of BJP veteran LK Advani, party`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi among others.

These include all 26 seats in Gujarat, and all 13 in Punjab; 17 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal , seven in Bihar and one each in Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

An estimated 13.83 crore voters have the right to vote in this phase of polls in seven states and two Union Territories to elect 89 MPs. Elections are already over in 349 constituencies in the first six phases.

Yet again, Congress and BJP have big stakes in this phase with 35 and 23 seats in their bag respectively.

Stakes are also high for the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab which has four seats and is locked in a bitter contest with Congress.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which spearheaded the campaign for Telangana state, and Congress, whose government at the Centre cleared the new state proposal, are said to be involved in a hard-fought contest over credit for the new state.

The TRS has two Lok Sabha seats while TDP has two from the region.

The Janata Dal (United) and Trinamool Congress have five seats each in the constituencies going to polls in the seventh phase, while CPI(M) has four.

Other prominent names whose fate will be decided today are - Madhusudan Mistry, Capt. Amarinder Singh and Sriprakash Jaiswal of Congress and Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti of BJP, besides, Sharad Yadav of JDU and Farooq Abdullah of National Conference.
