New Delhi: Slamming Narendra Modi`s aide Amit Shah`s controversial "revenge" remark in Uttar Pradesh, Congress on Sturday rejected BJP`s defence of it as "flagrant crude defence and justification of communalism" and accused it of mastering the art of "hypocrisy".

"Shah`s rank communal remark shows that BJP does not understand the idea of India and its agenda is to divide communities and get votes. That it the only agenda of this communal party of India," party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

He also rejected any parallel between Shah`s remarks in Muzaffarnagar and Congress President Sonia Gandhi`s meeting with Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari, saying, "Do not compare an elephant with an ant".

He said that the Congress President has been urging all political parties not to allow the division of secular votes.

Latching on to the Cobra sting operation on Babri mosque demolition, Singhvi described BJP`s policy as a "cocktail of crony capitalism and communalism" and accused leaders of the opposition party of practising "hypocrisy" and not having the courage to accept their role in the incident.

Replying to a question about Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut reportedly saying that he was proud about the demolition, he said, "At least he has the courage of conviction to say the black deed he did. The Advanis, Modis, Joshis and Vinay Katiyars of BJP do have even that courage. They are being hypocritical.
"The true hypocrats are those, who are able to lie with sincerity....They have mastered the art of hyopcrisy. Advani ji had said the demolition of Babri mosque was the saddest moment of his life while there were facts to contarary, picture of Uma Bharti dancing with joy after the demolition and then BJP`s charade and facade that it was an spontaneous act."

He also took a dig at BJP for its new jingle in which votes are being sought in the name of Modi only, saying their "agenda is to swallow up the agenda of India just as Modi has swallowed up BJP."

Singhvi said that now even votes are being sought in that
party for Modi and not BJP or even the candidates of BJP.

"We stand for synthesis, aggregation and pluralism, they stand for segregation and dominance. The `chaal, charitra chehra` of BJP is imbued with rank crude communalism.

BJP President Rajnath Singh had yesterday defended Shah`s remarks, saying it was not a question of seeking revenge from any religion. He said what Shah was referring to was to teach Congress a lesson for the "fraud" it had played with the nation over the years.

Singhvi said that foreigners were accused of divide and rule but now BJP was also trying to divide the society in their quest for power. "The country will always have a trust deficit with BJP and that trust deficit will continue," he said.

He alleged that the professed objective of Advani`s Rath Yatra was to "conflagrate communal passion" to get BJP some respectable tally in Parliament.

"It was this communal agenda, which led to the bloodshed and ultimately Babri mosque demolition. While some of them admitted it, the real others, who are responsible for it, do not have the courage to accept it. Everybody knows the demolition was meticulously planned.

"What we have come across in the recent Cobra Post sting is just another confirmation of what the whole world knows," he said and also referred to the statement of Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik, who reportedly wondered as to why BJP was denying the act with which he was also very much a part.

Dismissing questions about the role of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in allegedly allowing the demolition to take place as "absolute distortion", Singhvi said he believed then UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh who had promised to protect the disputed structure.
