New Delhi: Celebrations broke out in the BJP headquarters here Friday after early trends in favour of the saffron party came in with the party leading in 215 seats out of trends available for 403 seats.
A festive spirit prevailed at the BJP office at Ashoka Road where party workers and leaders gathered in large numbers bursting crackers, distributing sweets and NaMo tea.
Many workers were seen smearing each other with colour and dancing to the beats of drums.
Going by the initial trends, party workers exuded confidence that the BJP is set to get its best-ever tally so far in Lok Sabha elections.
Senior BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javadekar and Balbir Punj were present in the celebrations.
"This is the victory of the people and the party. This is victory for Narendra Modi," said Naqvi, brushing aside any talks of dissensions within the party.
Party Spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said, "More than victory, it is a responsibility for us. It is important that we remember that this victory is because of the people`s confidence in us."
Delhi BJP office wore a festive mood with party workers soaking themselves in celebrations.
The state unit headquarters at 14, Pandit Pant Marg were thronged by workers who raised slogans in favour of Modi and its state chief Harsh Vardhan.
Amid bursting of firecrackers and drum beats, party cadres broke into a dance.
Many party workers were seen wearing T-shirts that read `I MODIfied India` with a picture of Modi printed on it while many others were busy applying colour on each other.
"You can see it for yourself," an elated Vardhan said when asked to respond to the poll results which indicated victory for him from the prestigious Chandni Chowk constituency.
By afternoon, BJP candidates Ramesh Bidhuri from South, Udit Raj from North West, actor Manoj Tiwari from North East, Mahesh Giri from East, Meenakshi Lekhi from New Delhi, Parvesh Verma from West Delhi constituency were maintaining a healthy lead over their nearest rivals.
While Aam Aadmi Party stayed second to BJP on all seven seats across Delhi, Congress was pushed down to the third place with heavyweights like Kapil Sibal, Krishna Tirath and Ajay Maken trailing in their bastions.
