New Delhi: With less than a week to go for poll results, Congress today said it is on the path of "scintillating" victory and slammed BJP for its "desperate" attack on Election Commission saying it was sign of a "big loser" preemptively attacking the umpire.
"As far as Congress is concerned, it is going to get a scintillating victory. A Congress-led coalition will form the next government.
"We are not here to speculate. Have patience. We are not contemplating possibility of sitting in the opposition, we are on our path to victory," party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said today.
His remarks came a day after party General Secretary Ajay Maken said that it is "impossible" for Narendra Modi to become prime minister as he will not have "adequate seats and allies".
It came on a day when Trinamool Congress and BSP snubbed BJP over supporting it in government formation.
Earlier, Finance Minister P Chidambaram had said that Congress has a "very good chance" of forming a government under its leadership with some allies.
Singhvi said as the campaign is closing, it was becoming clear that the BJP`s bubbles are bursting rapidly.
"It is clear that Moditis is fast being recognised as exaggerationitis and imaginationitis because BJP is now fast discovering that its estimates and numbers are nothing but gas," Singhvi said.
He claimed that BJP is now finding that "the so-called wave is a chimera" and secular minded parties would not support it. "Where then will this imaginative Mission-272 figure come from is only a question which Shri Mungeri Lal can answer?," Singhvi said taking a dig at BJP.
He further said that due to this the BJP had become frustrated, aggressive, and fearful.
"In Varanasi a party limited by Modi, Modi Limited Party namely the BJP is a victim of its hype. Hence the intemperate and desperate attack on the Election Commission surely, surely the sign of a big loser preemptively attacking the umpire and also by fudging facts," he said.
Singhvi said that from the increasing shrillness of its attack, it was clear that BJP was a party trapped "within the Prime Ministerial ambitions of one man."
He claimed that it appeared that the BJP was not even close to the number of seats it got in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s time not to talk of its more ambitious targets.
Singhvi said that a BJP leader had compared apples and oranges by complaining that his party`s rally in Beniyabagh was not allowed by the EC while Congress` rally was given a go ahead.
He said that such decisions are taken on the basis of security perceptions which are different for different parties as they arise from different considerations.
The Congress leader said that four out of 5 rallies of BJP were given a green signal.
"It is the typical propaganda machine of the BJP trying to confuse and confound and certainly the administration is entitled to look through a divisive polarising tactic of the BJP in wanting to go to a particular location and spot and conflagrate issues," Singhvi said.
