New Delhi: A day ahead of polling in Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Monday said that the former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh is suitable to be a `gutter inspector`.

“Amarinder Singh is more suitable to be a gutter inspector, that is his mindset,” Jaitley said.

In response to Amarinder Singh calling Jaitley`s attack against the Gandhi family as a "classic example of the pot calling the kettle black", the senior BJP leader, who is also fighting his maiden electoral battle from Amritsar constituency this year, called Amarinder Singh`s case of a `majestic isolation`.
"It is an irony that he (Jaitley) led the protests in parliament against coal allocations to various private companies while so conveniently choosing to ignore his own stand and opinion given just a few years ago that benefited two companies," Singh had said.

Attacking the ex-Punjab CM, Jaitely further said, “Amarinder Singh`s case is that of majestic isolation where even his partymen are embarrassed standing by him.”

Earlier, Singh had said that he is not interested in fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Amritsar after BJP pitted Jaitely from the same place. But later he agree to bow before the orders of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Amarinder had been reluctant to contest saying his wife, Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, needed him for campaigning there. He had also opposed an earlier proposal by Punjab Congress chief Partap Bajwa to field him from Bathinda.

Amarinder is the MLA from Patiala and was chief minister from 2002 to 2007.

Further, over Amarinder`s allegations of corruption and black money, Jaitely said, “He (Singh) is in habit of concocting falsehood & lies.”

Questioning the "high moral ground" of Jaitley on corruption and black money, Singh had yesterday asked him to "come clean" on both the issues.

Talking about alleged connection between hawala operator Afroz Fatta and BJP`s PM nominee Narendra Modi, Jaitely clarified, “Just becasue Afroz Fatta came as part of a delegation to meet Modiji, it makes Modiji answerable for his offences!”

Sources in the Enforcement Directorate today said that there is “no direct or indirect connection” with alleged hawala operator Afroz Fatta and Narendra Modi.

Yesterday, Congress released a photograph of Modi with Fatta, who was arrested in connection with a Rs 1,000-crore hawala racket.
