New Delhi: With less than 24 hours to go before the General Elections results are announced, Congress party`s Sandeep Dikshit has already conceded defeat.
Dikshit, who contested from the East Delhi constituency, told a news channel that he is unlikely to win in the Lok Sabha polls though added that he`s “not speaking for the party but only for himself”.
Botsa Satyanarayana, former president of the Andhra Pradesh unit of the Congress, also conceding defeat told reporters that his party will suffer a blow in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Seemandhra.
Satyanarayana said the results would be no different from this week`s municipal and panchayat elections in which the Congress faced a humiliating defeat. He said the party was losing heavily because of its decision to bifurcate the state.
Most of the exit polls have predicted a drubbing for the Congress and a come back for the BJP-led NDA to power at the Centre after 10 years with Narendra Modi poised to be India’s next PM.
The Congress did not name anyone as the PM candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the voting for which got over on May 12, though party vice president Rahul Gandhi was the face of the campaign of the party.
The Congress, as predicted by the exit polls, will face a complete rout in the national capital.
The Congress, which had been in government for the last 15 years, was uprooted from the corridors of power.
The Congress on Thursday suggested that all the `secular parties` should come together and elect West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as their leader in order to stop BJP`s PM candidate Narendra Modi from the occupying the top post of the country.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi, while admitting that it may be difficult for Congress to form the government, said, "It may be difficult for us to form the government, but all secular forces should come together to keep Narendra Modi away from power."
The results are scheduled to be announced on May 16.
