Puducherry: Puducherry Education Minister R Kamalakannan on Wednesday said the Fees Committee, set up in 2014 to determine the fee structure for private schools in the Union Territory, would be requested to submit a report on the same.

He told this during the zero hour in the assembly.

Responding to the concerns of MLAs of both the ruling and opposition blocks over "parents getting their wards admitted to the private schools despite collection of exorbitant fees," the Minister said, the territorial government was spending Rs 600 crores for Education sector.

Infrastructure was also strengthened in government schools and teachers with high standard were also posted in the schools, he noted.

On demands from MLAs that government school students completing Class X should automatically get admission to Class XI in the same school, Kamalakannan said he would convene a meeting of officials of the Directorate of Education and ensure that the trend is brought to an end.
