New Delhi: The civilians in Yemen are dying and so are the animals of the local zoo. The ongoing civil war has devastated the country and completely shattered the lives of citizens and denizens. At least people have the option to migrate to the neighboring countries for a better life, but the poor animals of Taiz zoo are bound to live in the midst of the crisis.

Constant bombings in surrounding areas, flighting and cease-fires are wreaking havoc on hundreds of creatures of the zoo. They are getting no food, no water, zero veterinary care and are forced to eat each other.

The zoo is a home to many endangered species including Arabian Leopard who are also starving to an extent that one male leopard was resorted to eat the corpse of his female companion.

According to One Green Planet reports out of 280 animals living in the zoo, 11 lions and six leopards have already died. Those who are alive are either malnutritioned or victim of some deadly disease.

The pathetic condition of these animals came into limelight when an international team of volunteers posted their images online. They also launched a Facebook campaign to draw the attention of international wildlife organizations in this regard.

Their untiring efforts have finally yielded some food, water and medical assistance for the animals but still they need strong support to prevent animals from falling prey to poachers.
