The fishery scientists, teachers, students and the public will take lessons from the traditional fisher folk in Kerala on the indigenous traditional knowledge (ITK) owned by the latter at a special function to be held by Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) as part of the World Fisheries Day celebration on Nov 20 and 21.

Kochi: The fishery scientists, teachers, students and the public will take lessons from the traditional fisher folk in Kerala on the indigenous traditional knowledge (ITK) owned by the latter at a special function to be held by Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) as part of the World Fisheries Day celebration on Nov 20 and 21.

KUFOS has lined up several programmes, including a seminar on 'Importance of Indigenous Traditional Knowledge (ITK) in India for Conservation and Management of Fishery Resources', pubic rally, open house, exhibition, quiz, Clean Vembanadu campaign and cultural programmes, a KUFOS release said today.

The traditional fisher folk in the state are set to share their traditional knowledge with the scientific community at the seminar on ITK.

Minister K Babu will inaugurate the celebration and Vice Chancellor B Madhusoodana Kurup will flag off a public rally which will be attended by students, teachers, fishermen and the general public.

The Minister will give away KUFOS awards to the Best Traditional Fisherman, Best Fish Farmer, Best Fishery Scientist, Best Fishery Planner and the Best Fisheries Student.
