Nashik: To conserve the environment, the Akhara Council has decided to put a ban on the use of plastic items and loudspeakers at the venue of the ongoing Kumbh Mela here.

"The Akhara Council and seven Mahants have unanimously decided to ban plastic items and loudspeakers in the venue and instead use bio-degradable items," Senior Mahant Maheshwar Das of Bada Akahda Udasin said.

"People have turned into consumers by western culture. Both Radhe Ma and Asaram Bapu have commercialized humanity and consider people as customers. They are being promoted by such people who consider the wealthy as the reverent," he said.

The Mahant said, the Kumbh Mela also aims to eradicate "mental pollution" among the masses. There are many people in the world who are killing people and destroying humanity in the name of God.

These people should be made to realize that humanity is at the centre of life, society and culture, he said.
