New Delhi: North Delhi Mayor Yogender Chandolia on Thursday inspected the Town Hall in Chandni Chowk area in old Delhi area and directed NDMC officials to clean up the over 140-year-old heritage building within 15 days.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has proposed a Rs 50-crore redevelopment plan for the Town Hall, the headquarters of the erstwhile unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi but the plan has been stuck in a limbo since the change of guard at the Centre.

"The North Delhi mayor inspected the Town Hall building and has directed the officials that cleanliness and maintenance of the building be done within 15 days," the NDMC said in a statement.

He said that all unused furniture and other articles in the building be disposed off as early as possible.

The Mayor and Municipal Commissioner Praveen Gupta earlier garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Azad Park in the premises of the Town Hall, on the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and paid glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation.

Students and teachers of municipal schools, through a rally, sensitised citizens about cleanliness with message on banners.

After Town Hall, the officials inspected Bungalow Road, Kamla Nagar, Netaji Subhash Place, Rohini and Karol Bagh.
