Gym owner shoots journalist dead in Delhi

A 30-year-old journalist was shot dead allegedly by a gym owner after an altercation between the two over playing loud music and resultant nuisance in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, police said today.

New Delhi: A 30-year-old journalist was shot dead allegedly by a gym owner after an altercation between the two over playing loud music and resultant nuisance in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, police said today.

The deceased has been identified as Hardeep Singh, who worked as the editor of a journal published by the Inter- University Accelerator Centre, an institute run by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Prior to that he worked as a video editor for Hindi news channel Live India, which he left an year back, police said.

The incident took place on Monday and the accused, Rinku, a gym owner in the area, went absconding after allegedly shooting Singh dead, a senior police official said.

From preliminary investigation it has emerged that the altercation between the accused and the victim took place over the former playing music too loud and creating nuisance in the locality, the official said.

Neighbours raised an alarm and the police were informed. Singh was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead, following which a case of murder was registered, the official said.

A police team has been formed to nab the accused.
