New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday requested Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung to reconsider his decision to scrap the `thana` (police station) level committees`.
"I have learnt through media reports that the thana level committees that I have repeatedly requested your good office to notify in Delhi - against the backdrop of horrific rapes in Delhi - have been scrapped," DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said in a letter to Jung.
"Scrapping of the thana level committees will be a huge blow to the efforts towards women`s safety and democratic decision-making in the state... kindly reconsider your decision," she wrote.
The committees, constituted by the lt. governor, include the area`s legislator and officials from police, administration and associations as members.
She also said that DCW is willing to form a consultative forum with the lt. governor`s office to discuss the issue.
