Delhi power outages: Anil Ambani issued notice over poor performance of his firm 'BSES', asked to provide a roadmap

New Delhi: Days after pulling up companies over failure to check issues that lead to power outages in the national capital, Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday wrote to Reliance ADA chairman Anil Ambani asking to meet with a roadmap on plan to improve BSES's performance in the state.

Delhi Power Minister, in the notice, criticised Ambani for failing to check power cuts in the national capital and alleged that the latter's company 'BSES' is indulging in corruption. Not stopping here, Jain also accused Ambani of having 'cosy' relations with previous Delhi government at the expense of public interests.

The minister in his letter asked the Reliance ADA chairman to appear next week with a roadmap to improve power outages in Delhi.

Read the stern letter sent by Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain to Reliance ADA chairman Anil Ambani

"Performance of BSES has so far been atrocious. They were handed over the responsibility of power distribution of two-thirds of Delhi in 2002, roughly 14 years back. The expectation was that you will bring down tariffs and install a world-class power system in any other capital in the world. However, you have failed to do so.

There are also allegations of corruption and financial irregularities including syphoning off funds by your companies. Some of these allegations have been corroborated in CAG's draft report and in earlier DERC orders.

Last few weeks have seen unprecedented power outages in the capital due to local faults despite availability of adequate power. Despite repeated meetings and warning to the senior most officials, including CEOs, of your companies, things have not improved. After stern warnings from the Government, your companies have not started fudging the data to show improvement. If there are 10 outages, the daily report from your company shows only 7 and deliberately masks out 3.

It indicates that either your managers and engineers are incapable of dealing with the situation or they are deliberately allowing the situation to deteriorate. In either case, the elected Government cannot stay as a mute spectator.

You might have had a cosy relationship with previous Governments in Delhi at the expense of public interest, kindly note that the new Government is fully committed to protecting the interests of public and their welfare. In order to do that, the new AAP Government in Delhi will not hesitate in taking strong decisions.

You are requested to come immediately for a meeting with the undersigned with a concrete roadmap on how you plan to improve the situation. I hope to see you sometime early next week."
