New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday summoned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly using derogatory term for policemen.
In the notice issued, the court asked the Delhi Chief Minister to appear before it on July 14 in the matter.
During an interview to a television channel in July last year, CM Kejriwal came under fire after he allegedly used the word 'thulla' to describe Delhi policemen. The term is a derogatory slang commonly used in Delhi to refer to policemen.
Angry over his remarks, several policemen registered complaints against CM Kejriwal for alleged defamation.
One of the constables, identified as Harvinder, claimed that he was mentally disturbed and felt "very insulted and defamed" by Kejriwal's remark.
Kejriwal, however, later clarified that he had used "thulla" against those policemen who "harass" poor people for money, and called for strict action against those personnel.
