Court orders FIR in rape case against Delhi police official

A court has ordered lodging of an FIR against a Delhi police official, who had allegedly raped a woman and also videographed the incident on promise of marriage.

New Delhi: A court here has ordered lodging of an FIR against a Delhi police official, who had allegedly raped a woman and also videographed the incident on promise of marriage.

"Considering allegation of rape and criminal extortion by retaining the video recording of sexual intercourse, against accused, I am of the considered opinion that present matter requires scientific and specialised investigation...," Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tarun Yogesh said.

It further said that the "Station House Officer (SHO) of Saket Police Station is directed to register an FIR against accused ASI (Assistant Sub Inspector) Varun Jha under the appropriate provisions of the IPC".

The court order came on a complaint filed by a Delhi based woman, who had alleged that Jha allured her on promise to marry her and indulged in physical relationship despite her objection and later in December 2013 refused to marry her.
"Accused is alleged to have committed rape upon her and thereafter continued raping her every week or fortnight on his false promise of marrying the complainant," she had said in her complaint to the court, adding that Jha and she first met at Ambedkar Nagar police station here and got friendly.

She has also alleged that Jha has recorded the sexual intercourse between them in the mobile phone of his friend and was threatening to show the recording to her family members if she forces him for marriage.
Allowing the woman`s plea, the court said "Considering the gravity of allegations against an officer of Delhi Police and also the serious offences alleged against an officer in uniform.

"It is further directed that investigation of the case should be conducted by an officer of the rank of Inspector, preferably by a lady officer and shall be carried under the direct supervision of ACP (assistant commissioner of police) concerned."
