New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday took out a massive candlelight march covering some of the the city's famous landmarks like the Jantar Mantar and India Gate to protest against the government's handling of a suicide case pertaining to a 70-year-old retired jawan who had tragically ended his life over the delay in OROP pension.

- Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who participated in the protest, accused the Modi government of “fooling people on many key issues facing the nation".

- He also slammed Union Minister General VK Singh for his comments on the dead soldier from Bhiwani, saying that he has gone against the sentiments of the defence forces by calling the retired subadar a "Congress worker".

- Terming his remarks as “shameful”, Singh said, “He (Parrikar) is a senior minister in the Modi Cabinet... a lot of things can be said about his tenure."

- Slamming the Modi government, Singh said, even the “surgical strike” of the Army was unnecessary dragged into a controversy by deliberately giving it a political colour by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who allegedly said "it's an RSS 'shanskar'".
