New Delhi: In a big jolt to Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government, Law Ministry on Wednesday said that prior consent of Centre is needed before the enactment of Jan Lokpal Bill.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has warned to go to any extent to get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed in Delhi Assembly. Kejriwal last week said that he is ready to sacrifice the CM`s seat a hundred times to remove corruption from the country.
Kejriwal had earlier said that Centre`s prior clearance was not required for the clearance of the ombudsman bill. The Delhi CM had asserted that the Constitution provides the Delhi government to pass any law except for the law related to police, law and order and land.

The Union Home Ministry had earlier referred to the Law Ministry the missive of the Kejriwal government to withdraw an order requiring proposed bills to be sent to the central government first, official sources had said.
The sources said the Home Ministry asked the Law Ministry to examine the 2002 order and give its opinion on the issue.

The AAP government had written to the Home Ministry seeking withdrawal of its 2002 order which directs the Delhi government to take approval of the ministry before passage of any bill in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government today turned down Lt Governor Najeeb Jung`s suggestion that it reconsider its decision to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill at a special session in an open stadium.

Citing reservations expressed by Delhi Police in providing security, Jung asked Chief Minister Kejriwal to reconsider the government`s Feb 3 decision to hold a special session of the Delhi Assembly in the open to pass the bill.
