New Delhi: Commuters were in for a harrowing time on Monday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led protesters blocked the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor outside the Greater Kailash Jal Board office causing massive jams in areas of South Delhi.

The 400-odd-protesters, who were reportedly demanding water lines in certain unauthorised colonies like Sangam Vihar, were holding a sit-in on one of the BRT carriageways between Moolchand Hospital and Chirag Delhi, forcing cops to block the arterial road.

This led to a massive jam with traffic being diverted from the Moolchand flyover onto colony roads.

Daily commuters bore the brunt as the capital`s lifeline —the Ring Road —was choc-a-bloc with bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Following the protest, commercial vehicles coming from Chirag Delhi crossing and Moolchand flyover/crossing were diverted on Outer Ring Road and Ring Road while the light motor vehicles from Moolchand Crossing toward Chirag Delhi were diverted toward Andrews Ganj and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Andrews Ganj by the traffic police.

Light vehicles coming from Siri Fort BRT crossing were diverted toward Greater Kailash and Siri Fort road and they were not allowed to ply on BRT toward DJB office.

The protesters began dispersing around 4 pm only after senior DJB officials assured the protesters of looking into their demands and police persuaded them not to obstruct the road.
