New Delhi: Senior advocate HS Phoolka on Tuesday said the Delhi Assembly`s resolution on the 1984 riots was important as it had directed that the cases be registered against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who had earlier been provided relief in the case by the CBI.
"The Delhi Assembly has passed a resolution which is very important in the sense that it had directed that the cases should be registered against Jagdish Tytler.
The CBI had declined to register the case against Jagdish Tytler on the influencing of the witnesses and on hawala transaction," Phoolka told ANI.
"The Chief Minister also declared that those victims who need a lawyer to pursue their cases, the government will provide a lawyer on the government`s expenses," he added.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced that his government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to help the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which claimed the lives of almost 3,000 Sikhs, were triggered by the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, by her two Sikh bodyguards.
