Eight Maoist guerrillas killed in Chhattisgarh, 3 cops injured

At least eight Maoist guerrillas were killed and many others injured in a gunfight with police in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, a senior police officer said. Three police personnel were also injured.

Raipur/Jagdalpur: At least eight Maoist guerrillas were killed and many others injured in a gunfight with police in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, a senior police officer said. Three police personnel were also injured.

A huge quantity of explosives and other incriminating material have been seized from the spot.

Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena said the gun battle started at Tetam village on the boundary of Kondagaon and Narayanpur districts when a police patrol party came across nearly 50 guerrillas.

"Based on prima facie evidence gathered after a close scrutiny of the gunfight spot, we have concluded that at least 8-10 guerrillas were killed and many others injured. The guerrillas succeeded in taking away the bodies of their fallen cadres," the police officer said.

In the gunfight that continued for around two and a half hours, Sub-Inspector Pushpraj Nagvanshi, Assistant Sub-Inspector Awadh Ram Sahu and Vinay Kumar Baghel of the district police were injured.

A seriously injured Pushpraj has been referred to a Raipur hospital.
