Chhattisgarh CM suspends officer for asking martyr's family to return money

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday said the official who issued a notice to the family of martyred Special Police Officer (SPO) Kishore Pandey, has been suspended.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday said the official who issued a notice to the family of martyred Special Police Officer (SPO) Kishore Pandey, has been suspended.

"The official who sent the letter has been suspended. I have spoken to the Chief Secretary and a notice has also been issued. We will investigate the matter thoroughly," Singh said.

Extending full support to the family of the bereaved he said, "When a soldier is martyred, we pay our respects and it becomes our responsibility to honour his sacrifice at the highest level. We will extend our full support to the families of the martyrs and make sure that nothing is lacking for these families."

Singh further said, "We should focus more on giving relaxation to families who have lost their loved ones rather than sending letters."

The Chhattisgarh police had issued a notice to the family of SPO Kishore Pandey, who was martyred while fighting with Maoists in Gariaband district, to pay back Rs 10,000 given for his last rites.

"In 2011, SPO Kishore Pandey was martyred. We payed Rs 10,000 for his last rite and have now issued a notice for its return," said Abhishek Pathak, Superintendent of Police.

According to reports, the money was used from the Police welfare fund.
