Over 10,000 lawyers of Patna High Court abstained from work on Tuesday demanding the new rules pertaining to filling of cases be withdrawn.

Patna: Over 10,000 lawyers of Patna High Court abstained from work on Tuesday demanding the new rules pertaining to filling of cases be withdrawn.

The decision to keep away from work was taken by the Coordination Committee of three associations of the Patna High Court lawyers at a meeting last evening.

Coordination Committee Convenor Sriprakash Srivastava said that the meeting discussed problems and difficulties faced by lawyers due to new rules for filling of petitition.

He said the HC administration recently came up with new rules which made it mandatory for lawyers to stand in queque for rectifying the defects which earlier was done by their Assistants.

The meeting, attended by President of Advocates' Association and Coordination Committee Chairman Vindhyakeshri Kumar, Bar Association Chief Abhay Kumar Singh and Lawyers Association President Uma Shankar, resolved to abstain from work till their demands were fulfilled.

Srivastava said the agitating lawyers also demanded construction of new building for them.

With lawyers keeping off from work, functioning of the HC came to a halt.
