Patna: Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United wants a new election symbol, as per a media report.
According to NDTV, members of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party supposedly believe that the present symbol of Janata Dal (United) - the arrow - may be confusing for the voters.
The move has come in the wake of JD(U), post its electoral success in Bihar, wanting to spread its wing outside the state.
The report also said that the party plans to meet the Election Commission after January 15.
They are likely to submit a list of its choice of symbols to replace the arrow.
The website quoted JDU sources as saying that the party has zeroed in on a tree, a farmer wielding a plough or a hut as some of the choices for the symbols.
JD(U) is reportedly looking at contesting upcoming elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, West Bengal and Kerala and hopes to have a new symbol by the end of January with whom the people can identify with better.
The party had passed a resolution at its national executive meeting on December 20-21 which, as quoted in the report, said - "Janata Dal is deeply concerned about its election symbol, which had similarity with election symbols of other political parties in the recently completed assembly election."
The Grand Alliance of JD(U), RJD, Congress won a two-thirds majority in Bihar in the 2015 Assembly elections with BJP suffering massive humiliation.
