Patna: The Bihar Legislative Council was adjourned sine die as the Monsoon Session came to an end on Friday afternoon.

Council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh said "altogether five sittings were conducted during this 180th session of this House. Many important issues related to public welfare were raised through calling attention notices, questions and Zero Hour."

Singh thanked the MLCs for their positive role during the session and cooperation extended to him.

He also pointed out that the government tabled eight important bills, including the Bihar Right to Public Grievance Redressal Bill 2015, during the period.

The Chairman said Assembly elections in the state would be held after this session and extended his best wishes to all candidates and voters who would participate in it.

He appealed all eligible voters to exercise their franchise to strengthen democracy.

Speaking prior to the Chairman, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also a member of the Upper House of the state, said altogether 325 questions were submitted to the Council, of which 300 were approved.

"Altogether 50 calling attention motions were submitted, of which 30 were approved during the session. Eight issues were raised during Zero Hour. The House also received 29 requests, which lapsed," Kumar added.

The Monsoon Session, which started on August 3 and continued for five days, saw much ruckus and several adjournments in the Council as ruling JD(U) legislators supported by allies RJD and Congress pitted themselves against opposition BJP MLCs.

While JD(U) legislators protested Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'DNA remark' targeting Kumar and disrupted proceeding of the House, the BJP vociferously protested deteriorating law and order situation in the state, cases of alleged corruption and the murder of its Patna unit general secretary Avinash Kumar forcing several adjournments.
