Campaigning for first phase of polling in West Bengal, Assam ends today

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements in Assam and West Bengal to ensure smooth Assembly Elections.

Kolkata: The campaigning across 65 constituencies in Assam and 18 constituencies in West Bengal will end on Saturday ahead of the first phase of polling in both the states.

The polling for the first phase is scheduled for Monday, when the fate of nearly 539 candidates would be decided.

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements in all the poll-bound areas to ensure smooth elections.

 

Assam has a total of one crore 98 lakh voters.

The Election Commission has announced two-phase voting for the 14th Assam Assembly Elections on April 4 and 11, while the votes will be counted on May 19.

The tenure of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government comes to an end in June.

 

The elections to the 294 seat West Bengal Assembly will be conducted in six phases, spread across seven polling days from April 4 to May 5.
