The CID of AP police on Saturday filed 1,500 page charge sheet against 46 persons, including 26 doctors, in connection with the alleged irregularities in the PG Medical Entrance Test (PGMET) held by a Vijayawada-based University.

Hyderabad: The CID of AP police on Saturday filed 1,500 page charge sheet against 46 persons, including 26 doctors, in connection with the alleged irregularities in the PG Medical Entrance Test (PGMET) held by a Vijayawada-based University.

The probe conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) revealed that the question paper of the exam held on March 2 this year, had been leaked from Manipal Printing Technologies Ltd at Manipal located in Karnataka.

"The investigation has been completed and a charge sheet has been filed against all the 46 arrested accused before the III-Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Vijayawada. The case was posted to June 9," a CID release said here.

All the 46 accused, including 20 middlemen, are lodged in the District Jail at Vijayawada. Some of the accused are from Karnataka.

Additional Director General of Police (CID) T Krishna Prasad had earlier said that the scam was spread across several cities in the country.

"The brokers collected original mark sheets of MBBS and SSC from students, besides post-dated cheques and advance amount," Krishna Prasad had said, adding, the middlemen had collected up to Rs 10 lakh as advance from students promising them question paper for the exam and the answer key.

The arrested middlemen had business links, even though they separately ran their educational consultancy services in Hyderabad, the ADG said.
Those who paid hefty sums in advance were provided accommodation at various locations and also coaching based on the leaked question paper and key.

"These students secured ranks ranging from 2 to 25 in the medical PG entrance exam. Under the management quota these seats are usually sold at Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore," the ADG added.
