BSP on Monday demanded adequate financial assistance for the newly-created Telangana state as well as for backward states so as to ensure all-round development of the country.

Lucknow: BSP on Monday demanded adequate financial assistance for the newly-created Telangana state as well as for backward states so as to ensure all-round development of the country.

Telangana came into existence as the 29th state of India today, capping the decades-old struggle in the region for carving out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh.

In a message issued on behalf of party president Mayawati here, it said the party demands adequate financial assistance for Telangana, Seemandhra area besides other backward states from the Centre to give proper momentum to their development.

K Chandrasekhar Rao was today sworn in the Chief Minister of newly-carved out state.

Mayawati in the statement said, the party has two MLAs in Telangana and hoped that with the creation of a new state the poverty and other problems of the area would be redressed and the area would witness prosperity for its people.

Congratulating the people of the area, Mayawati said that her party had always supported separate Telangana state for which it had struggled both inside and outside Parliament.
