'Tinka Tinka Tihar' song enters Limca Book of Records

New Delhi: The one of a kind song 'Tinka Tinka Tihar' sung by the inmates of Tihar Jail was recently released by Smt Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha in 2015. The song is special as it is shot inside the Tihar jail premises. It has been conceptualised, scripted and executed by Vartika Nanda, a prison reformer.

The big news of the special number titled 'Tinka Tinka Tihar' is that it has entered the prestigious Limca Book of Records. Sung by the inmates of Tihar jail, the audio tape was released by the then Home Minister of India, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde in 2013.

Later, the song was turned into a musical video was released again by Smt Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, 2015. Interestingly, the song was shot inside jail number 2 of Tihar. This film is produced by Lok Sabha TV, the public service broadcaster. For the first time, a film of this kind has been shot inside any prison in India.

This is the second time that 'Tinka Tinka Tihar' has made an entry into the Limca Book of Records, the first in 2015 for being the first book of its kind with inmates writing poems. This was edited by Vartika Nanda and Vimla Mehra, IPS and then DG, Tihar.

'Tinka Tinka' is an initiative by Dr Vartika Nanda, a prison reforms activist, in order to bring change in the lives of the inmates. Vartika Nanda has already written three songs for three different jails.The 'Tinka Tinka Tihar' being the first in the series followed by 'Tinka Tinka Dasna' and the third song 'Tinka Tinka Agra' has already been shot and is to be released soon.

This song has also been declared as the theme song of the jail. Her recent book, 'Tinka Tinka Dasna' is in news for being the journalistic and literary overview on jails. The English version has been translated by Dr Nupur Talwar. 'Tinka Tinka' is now set to bring another book, 'Tinka Tinka Agra', focusing on the inmates serving life imprisonment in Agra jail.

'Tinka Tinka' has also initiated two awards exclusively for inmates—'Tinka Tinka Bandini Awards' and 'Tinka Tinka India Awards'.
