Stock market live updates: Gold futures fall on low demand
Gold prices on Friday fell by Rs 17 to Rs 54,954 per 10 grams in futures trade as speculators reduced their positions. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for February delivery traded lower by Rs 17 or 0.03 per cent at Rs 54,954 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 13,646 lots. Analysts attributed the fall in gold prices to the trimming of positions by participants. Globally, gold was trading 0.03 per cent lower at USD 1,825.40 per ounce in New York.

Silver futures on Friday fell by Rs 416 to Rs 69,351 per kilogram as participants reduced their bets. Globally, silver was trading 0.33 per cent lower at USD 24.17 per ounce in New York.

Copper futures on Friday fell by Rs 1.85 to Rs 720.90 per kilogram as participants cut their positions amid muted demand in the domestic market. Analysts said trimming of positions by speculators amid muted demand in spot market mainly dragged down copper prices in the futures trade.

Zinc prices on Friday increased by 40 paise to Rs 269.15 per kilogram in the futures trade, amid a pick-up in spot demand. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc contracts for January delivery traded higher by 40 paise or 0.15 per cent at Rs 269.15 per kg with a business turnover of 2,023 lots. Marketmen said widening of positions by participants, following a pick-up in demand from consuming industries kept zinc prices higher in the futures trade.

Cottonseed oil cake prices on Friday rose by Rs 57 to Rs 2,916 per quintal in futures trade as speculators created fresh positions amid higher demand. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, cottonseed oil cake for January delivery traded up by Rs 57 or 1.95 per cent at Rs 2,916 per quintal with an open interest of 32,880 lots. Marketmen said raising of positions by participants amid increasing demand from cattle-feed makers mainly influenced cottonseed oil cake prices.

Market analysts said subdued demand in the spot market mainly led to the decline in coriander prices.

Guar gum prices rose by Rs 203 to Rs 12,612 per five quintal in futures trade as speculators increased their holdings amid a firm spot demand. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, guar gum contracts for January delivery traded higher by Rs 203 or 1.61 per cent at Rs 12,612 per five quintal with an open interest of 20,930 lots. Analysts said after tracking a firm physical market trend, traders raised their bets which led to the rise in guar gum prices.

Shares of electronics manufacturing services company Elin Electronics made a muted market debut on Friday, listing with a discount of nearly 2 per cent, against the issue price of Rs 247. The stock made its debut at Rs 243, a decline of 1.61 per cent against the issue price on the BSE. It later fell 4.75 per cent to Rs 235.25. At the NSE, shares of the company made its debut at Rs 244, lower by 1.21 per cent. The company commanded a market valuation of Rs 1,175.43 crore on the BSE.
