Stock Market LIVE Updates: Markets rebound on fag-end buying, Sensex jumps 224 points

From the Sensex pack, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank were the major winners. In contrast, Tata Motors, Titan, UltraTech Cement, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv and Larsen & Toubro were the prominent laggards.

Equity benchmarks bounced back to end in the positive territory after trading lower for most part of the session on Thursday. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 223.60 points or 0.37 per cent to settle at 61,133.88. During the day, it had declined 431.22 points or 0.70 per cent to 60,479.06.

The broader NSE Nifty gained 68.50 points or 0.38 per cent to end at 18,191.

From the Sensex pack, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank were the major winners. In contrast, Tata Motors, Titan, UltraTech Cement, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv and Larsen & Toubro were the prominent laggards.

Elsewhere in Asia, equity markets in Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended lower. Equity exchanges in Europe were trading on a mixed note in mid-session deals. Markets in the US had ended in the red on Wednesday.

Stock market live update: Rupee dips 2 paise to close at 82.82 against US dollar

The rupee consolidated in a narrow range and settled 2 paise lower at 82.82 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday. Traders said the domestic unit traded in a narrow range amid softening crude oil prices and weak dollar. At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened weak at 82.77 against the greenback and witnessed an intra-day high of 82.76 and a low of 82.86. It finally ended at 82.82 against the American currency, registering a fall of 2 paise over its previous close of 82.80.

NTECL pays Rs 100.11 crore interim dividend to NTPC

NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited (NTECL) has paid an interim dividend of over Rs 100.11 crore to NTPC for 2022-23. NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited is a 50:50 joint venture of NTPC Limited and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO).

Silver futures decline to Rs 68,815 per kg

Silver futures on Thursday fell by Rs 198 to Rs 68,815 per kilogram as participants reduced their bets. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for March delivery declined by Rs 198 or 0.29 per cent to Rs 68,815 per kg in a business turnover of 20,816 lots. Globally, silver was trading 0.29 per cent lower at USD 23.77 per ounce in New York.

Gold futures fall on low demand

Gold prices on Thursday fell by Rs 81 to Rs 54,680 per 10 gram in futures trade as speculators reduced their positions. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for February delivery traded lower by Rs 81 or 0.15 per cent at Rs 54,680 per 10 gram in a business turnover of 13,537 lots. Analysts attributed the fall in gold prices to the trimming of positions by participants. Globally, gold was trading 0.17 per cent lower at USD 1,812.70 per ounce in New York.

Cottonseed oil cake futures rise on fresh bets

Cottonseed oil cake prices on Thursday rose by Rs 12 to Rs 2,881 per quintal in futures trade as speculators created fresh positions amid higher demand. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, cottonseed oil cake for January delivery traded up by Rs 12 or 0.42 per cent at Rs 2,881 per quintal with an open interest of 33,440 lots. Marketmen said raising of positions by participants amid increasing demand from cattle-feed makers mainly influenced cottonseed oil cake prices.

India-Australia FTA comes to effect from today

The free trade agreement (FTA) between India and Australia, which comes into effect from Thursday, will help boost bilateral trade in goods and services to cross USD 70 billion in the next five years, according to economic think tank GTRI. The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) has come into force from December 29. Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said trade of value USD 23 billion would become duty-free from day one.

Supertech offered 9,705 flats without occupancy certificates: Report

Debt-laden Supertech offered 9,705 flats across 18 residential projects to their owners without obtaining occupancy certificates from the respective development authorities, according to a report prepared by the realty firm's interim resolution professional. The Interim Resolution Professional (IRP) Hitesh Goel has submitted the status report about the company to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

Supertech has filed an appeal before the appellate tribunal challenging the National Company Law Tribunal's (NCLT) ruling on March 25 this year, wherein it initiated insolvency proceedings against the company. The matter is pending before NCLAT. The status report, pertaining to 18 residential projects spread across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand, was submitted to NCLAT on May 31.
