Stock Market LIVE Updates: Markets end lower for the third straight session

The Sensex plummeted 635 points while the NSE Nifty finished below the 18,200-mark on Wednesday as risk appetite was dampened by rising COVID cases in China and worries about future breakouts in other nations.

New Delhi: Markets pared early gains and ended lower for the third straight session on Thursday despite largely positive global market trends, amid the release of minutes of the RBI's MPC meeting.

Thought the 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex had a positive start in the morning, it failed to carry forward the gains and declined 241.02 points or 0.39 per cent to finish at 60,826.22. During the day, it tumbled 430 points or 0.70 per cent to 60,637.24. The broader NSE Nifty dropped 71.75 points or 0.39 per cent to settle at 18,127.35.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank and NTPC were among the major laggards in the Sensex pack. UltraTech Cement, Infosys, Asian Paints, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Sun Pharma and Bharti Airtel were the on the other hand the winners.

Sula Vineyards shares settle nearly 8% lower

Shares of Sula Vineyards on Thursday made a tepid market debut and ended nearly 8 per cent lower against the issue price of Rs 357. The stock was listed at Rs 358, marginally higher by 0.27 per cent from the issue price on the BSE. During the day, it hit a high of Rs 363.40 and low of Rs 328.60. Shares of the company finally ended at Rs 331.15 apiece, a decline of 7.24 per cent. On the NSE, it made its debut at Rs 361, climbing 1.12 per cent. The stock settled at Rs 329.90 per share, lower by 7.59 per cent.

Gold gains Rs 59; silver declines Rs 194

Gold price rose Rs 59 to Rs 55,241 per 10 grams in the national capital on Thursday amid gains in precious metal in overseas markets, according to HDFC Securities. In the previous trade, the yellow metal had touched Rs 55,182 per 10 grams. Silver, however, slipped Rs 194 to Rs 69,413 per kilogram.

Silver futures decline to Rs 69,159 per kg

Silver futures fell by Rs 550 to Rs 69,159 per kilogram as participants reduced their bets. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for March delivery declined by Rs 550 or 0.79 per cent to Rs 69,159 per kg in a business turnover of 22,686 lots. Globally, silver was trading 0.80 per cent lower at USD 24 per ounce in New York.

Maruti Suzuki signs 5-year pact with Kamarajar port for PV exports

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd signed a five-year pact with Kamarajar Port Ltd for export of its passenger vehicles to international markets. Under the agreement starting December 2022, Kamarajar Port will be used for exports to Africa, Middle East, Latin America, ASEAN, Oceania and SAARC regions by the company, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) said in a statement. The port will be used to export around 20,000 cars annually. A car-cum-general cargo berth has been developed and commissioned by Kamarajar Port Ltd for handling automobile units, it added.

Oil prices rise over $2/barrel 

Oil prices rose by more than $2 a barrel on Wednesday after data showed a larger-than-expected draw in U.S. crude stockpiles, but gains were capped by a snowstorm that is expected to hit U.S. travel. Brent crude futures for February delivery were up by $2.21, or 2.76%, at $82.20 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained $2.06, or 2.7%, to $78.29, said a Reuters report.

Reliance Retail Ventures acquires Metro Cash-Carry India for Rs 2,850 crore

Reliance Retail Ventures, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, on Thursday signed definitive agreements to acquire 100 per cent equity stake in Metro Cash and Carry India for a total cash consideration of Rs 2,850 crore, subject to closing adjustments.The transaction is subject to certain regulatory and other customary closing conditions and is expected to complete by March 2023, Reliance Retail said.

Sula Vineyards to make stock market debut today

Sula Vineyards is all set to make its stock market debut on Thursday. The issue, with a price band of 340-357 per share, will list on BSE and NSE in a special pre open session. Meanwhile experts are predicting that it would most likely see a flat listing. 

The initial public offer of Sula Vineyards got subscribed 2.33 times on the last day of offer on December 14. The Rs 960.35-crore initial share-sale received bids for 4,38,36,912 shares against 1,88,30,372 shares on offer, according to NSE data. The category for Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) got subscribed 4.13 times, Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) portion received 1.65 times subscription and non-institutional investors 1.51 times.
