Maharashtra: 1199 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams answer sheets destroyed in fire in Beed

MUMBAI: As many as 1199 answer sheets of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination were destroyed after a fire broke out in Maharashtra's Beed.

The answer sheets were of Mathematics and were kept inside a room which caught fire. The reason of fire is yet to be established. 

The HSC exams which started from February 21 will continue till March 20, 2018. Nearly 14.85 lakh applicants are estimated to appear for the exams. The exams are being held in nine divisions – Pune, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nasik, and Latur. 

The Maharashtra board has come up with a number of rigid measures to overcome cheating during the examination. As per the state board’s new an entry-exit policy, students will not be allowed to enter the examination hall once the exam starts at 10.30 am. In previous years, they were given a leverage of 30 minutes.

As per the press released by the Maharashtra Board, in HSC 2018 exams, 5,80,820 students have registered for Science stream while 4,79,863 candidates are appearing for Arts stream. In Commerce, 3,66,756 students have registered along with 57,693 candidates will appear for vocational papers.

A total of 14,85,132 will appear in the HSC exams, which is being organised at 9,486 junior colleges and 2,822 centres across the state.
