Rajahmundry is one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and has been a powerhouse for Congress for several decades although the party suffered a crushing defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Rajahmundry registered 86.54 percent voter turnout in Lok Sabha Election 2019, a gain of 28.24 percent from 2014. The total number of electors in the constituency is 1436010 while 1242742 came out to exercise their franchise. While in 2014, the constituency registered 58.30 percent voter turnout. The total number of electors in the constituency was 2218189 while 1293240 voted.

The first phase of voting in Rajahmundry – one of the 25 parliamentary constituencies of Andhra Pradesh where polling was held - ended on April 11. The fate of 11 candidates will be decided on May 23 when counting of votes takes place and the result is declared. The total voter turnout recorded in Andhra Pradesh was 76.69 per cent.

Rajahmundry backed Congress for six consecutive Lok Sabha elections between 1957 and 1980. TDP managed to secure a win in the 1984 Lok Sabha election while the BJP won here in 1998 and 1999. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Congress was absolutely decimated with TDP's Murali Mohan romping home to an emphatic win by getting 54.62 per cent of the votes. YSRCP was the second-placed party.
