INLD secretary general Abhay Singh Chautala's lead thinned over his nearest rival Gobind Kanda of the BJP in the Ellenabad assembly constituency in Haryana, according to latest trends for bypolls.Counting of votes for the October 30 bypoll to the seat is in progress. While Chautala maintained a consistent lead during the first seven rounds of counting, the margin dropped from 8,180 votes to 2,985 in the subsequent rounds. There are 16 rounds of counting of votes. The ruling JD(U) and main opposition RJD are leading in one assembly seat each in Bihar, according to the latest update by the Election Commission on counting trends. RJD's Arun Kumar is leading over his nearest rival of the JD(U) Rajiv Kumar Singh by 2,551 votes in Tarapur, after completion of seven rounds of counting. In Kushweshwar Asthan, JD(U) nominee Aman Bhushan Hajari is ahead of RJD's Ganesh Bharti by 6,242 votes, following 13 rounds of counting, data available with the poll panel showed.

The ruling Trinamool Congress led by a huge margin in all the four assembly constituencies in West Bengal, where by-polls were held on October 30, according to the latest update of counting trends by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The counting of votes to Khardah, Santipur, Gosaba and Dinhata began at 8 am amid tight security. In Dinhata in Coochbehar district, earlier considered a BJP stronghold, TMC's Udayan Guha was ahead of his nearest rival, BJP's Ashok Mandal, by a massive margin of 1,31,890 votes. In Santipur assembly constituency, famous for its handloom industry, TMC's Braja Kishore Goswami was leading over his nearest rival - BJP's Niranjan Biswas - by a margin of 24,330. In the Khardah assembly segment, state minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay was way ahead of CPI(M) 's Debajyoti Das, who stands at number two in the counting so far, by a margin of 46,728 votes.

The Election Commission on Tuesday prohibited victory procession after the counting of votes of bypolls ends. "No victory procession after counting permissible. Not more than 2 persons allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his/her authorised representative receives certification of election from Returning Officer concerned," read an official statement from the Election Commission.Counting underway for three Lok Sabha constituencies and 29 Assembly constituencies across 13 States and one Union Territory, where by-polls were held on October 30.

Ruling BJP candidates are leading in Bhabanipur and Thowra assembly bypolls in Assam, according to initial trends available for two of the five seats where counting of votes is underway. According to the Election Commission website, BJP's Phanidhar Talukdar was leading his nearest Congress rival Sailendra Nath Das by 7,839 votes in Bhabanipur. BJP nominee for Thowra seat Sushanta Borgohain was ahead of his Independent challenger Dhaijya Konwar by 2,524 votes. Trends for Gossaigaon, Tamulpur and Mariani seats are not available yet. (PTI)

Himachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer C. Palrasu said that all preparations have been completed for the counting of votes for by-elections to the Mandi parliamentary constituency and three assembly constituencies -- Fatehpur, Jubbal-Kotkhai and Arki. Counting of ballots would start at 8 am.
Palrasu said 11 counting observers have been deployed for the Mandi parliamentary constituency, and three for each Assembly constituency. Besides, one micro observer has also been deployed at each counting table.

Assam's Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade had on Monday (November 1) reviewed the arrangements for counting of votes for the bye-elections to five assembly constituencies. Altogether 73.77 per cent of nearly eight lakh eligible electors cast their votes in the bye-elections held on Saturday. Couting will begin at 8 am today.

The counting of votes for bypolls held in three Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh will be held soon. By-elections in three Assembly constituencies -- Prithvipur, Jobat, Raigon and one Lok Sabha seat -- Khandwa, held on October 30 saw an average of 65 per cent voting. A total of 48 candidates are in fray, however, the fight on all fours seats are mainly between the BJP and the Congress. Both, BJP and the Congress have been claiming victory.
