Kolkata: A day after arresting three persons from the city for their alleged involvement in a drug racket, the Narcotics Control Bureau's Kolkata unit on Tuesday arrested two more persons after recovering drugs from them.

One of them was accused of being involved in selling drug-laced sweets and chocolates in front of schools and colleges in the city.

NCB sleuths arrested Niloy Ghosh and Jerome Watson and recovered from them 148 blots of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) weighing around 2.2 gram and 26.6 gram of MDMA/Ecstacy, NCB's zonal director (East) Dilip Srivastava told PTI.

The seized drugs has a market value of around Rs 8 lakh.

Manufactured from lysergic acid, LSD is one of the most potent, mood-changing drugs, while MDMA, also called Ecstacy, is a synthetic drug that acts as a stimulant and hallucinogen.

Acting on the information after questioning arrested DJ Nikhil Lakhwani, NCB sleuths conducted a raid and nabbed the two from inside Ghosh's car, he said.

During investigation it surfaced that Watson, an event manager by profession, used to sell drugs to students studying in frontline engineering and management institutions besides, top schools in the city.

"There are several engineering and management students who have been purchasing drugs (from him). We have got the names of those from the contact list of Watson's mobile phone," another NCB official said.

Ghosh used to store these banned drugs in a medicine store his family owns in Salt Lake area.

The NCB officer said drug-laced sweets and chocolates were also sold outside the institutions through agents.

"Watson have employed several students of such institutions in spreading the network. It seems that the drug racket in Kolkata has spread its tentacles quite far," he said.

The NCB had on Sunday night arrested three persons including a DJ of a popular night club in the city for their alleged involvement in drug peddling here. They had also seized 2.450 kg hashish and one LSD blot paper from their possession.

Names of several influential personalities from the field of entertainment surfaced during questioning of the trio, NCB sources said.
