KOLKATA: The high profile Kolkata school, where a four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by male teachers, reopened on Thursday, amid massive protests by guardians.
Relieving the school's principal of her duties, the school on Wednesday had announced that the classes would resume from the next day, a guardians' forum member said.
The announcement came after a long meeting between the school authorities, the guardians' forum, senior officers of Kolkata Police, members of the state Child Rights Commission and other stakeholders on Wednesday evening.
The school authorities, earlier, had declared a sudden closure from December 4 onwards until further notice.
Parents, however, demanded the re-opening of school as senior classes were scheduled to appear for internal assessments.
A four-year-old girl child was allegedly sexually abused inside a school by two Physical Education teachers on November 30. The child's mother found the blood stain on her uniform while picking up from school.
A day after the incident, two PT teachers were arrested and sent to two days police custody. Meanwhile, the school has suspended both the teachers.
The victim's parents have lodged a complaint at the Jadavpur Police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the principal of the school for allegedly suppressing facts about the incident and for not taking preventive measures despite a similar assault three years ago.
