Kerala hikes minimum bus fares to Rs 8 from March 1

The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday hiked the bus fares across the state. Now, the minimum fares for travelling in ordinary buses is Rs 8. The fares will come into effect from March 1, 2018.

COCHIN: The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday hiked the bus fares across the state. Now, the minimum fares for travelling in ordinary buses is Rs 8. The fares will come into effect from March 1, 2018.

At present, the basic fare is Rs 7.

Here's the revised fare list:

The prescribed minimum charge as revised are:

Rs 8 for City/Ordinary services/City Fast Services

Rs 11 for Fast passenger/ Limited Stop Fast Passenger Services

Rs 15 for Super Fast Services

Rs 22 for Super Express

Rs 44 for Super Deluxe/ Semi Sleeper Services

Rs 44 for Luxury/Hi-tech/Air Conditioned/Volvo Services.

 

The change in fares was approved by ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) State committee.

The committee took the decision at an emergency meeting here on Tuesday.

The meeting was held after private bus operators’ federations threatened to launch an indefinite strike if bus fares are not hiked immediately. The operators had asked to hike the minimum fare from ₹7 to ₹10.
