Rahul Gandhi does election tourism, visits temples only in poll season: BJP

NEW DELHI: Attacking Congress President Rahul Gandhi over his visits to the temples during the election season, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has termed the visits of the Congress leader as election tourism. "What Rahul Gandhi does is election tourism. He is going from temples to mutts. I would have been happier had he not waited for Karnataka election. He remembered temples during Gujarat election in November and only now after three months, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said in Karnataka.

Goyal also said that people of Karnataka are smart and will not be impressed by such 'tactics'. "I think people of Karnataka are smart, they know everything and will not be impressed by these tactics. It will certainly not wash away the sins of the state government," Goyal added.

Rahul is on a four-day tour to poll-bound Karnataka where he will connect with people through a series of public interactions, road-side meetings and public rallies. On the first day of his visit, Rahul trained guns at the Narendra Modi government for making false promises. "Don't trust those who make false promises and show you false dreams," he said while speaking at a public meeting in Bellary in Karnataka. He will also visit Huligamma temple in the neighbouring Koppal town and will go to Gavi Siddheswara Lingayat Mutt to meet its head priest.

On the second day of his visit, Gandhi will travel on road for public receptions at Kushtagi, Kankagiri and Gangavati, followed by a public meeting at Karatagi in Koppal. On the third day, he will visit Raichur, Yadgir and Kalaburgi districts for public receptions, participate in a tribal rally at Devadurga in Raichur district, interact with youth and students at Shahpur in Yadgir district, followed by public meetings at Jewargi and Kalaburgi towns.

On the fourth and final day, he will interact with professionals and business community at Kalaburgi and fly to Basavakalyan by a chopper to visit Anubhava Mantapa in Bidar district.
